Despite Francis Coquelin's emergence as Arsenal's anchor man in the middle of the pitch, Arsene Wenger is in the market for a midfielder in Vidal’s mould, with the Chilean topping his transfer list ahead of Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin who is reportedly set to seal a switch to Man United.
And according to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, a deal to bring the 28-year-old to the Emirates Stadium is 90% done, after Wenger personally authorised the transfer to go ahead.
It is understood that the Arsenal boss is licking his lips at the prospect of pairing Vidal with his Chilean teammate Alexis Sanchez who had a blistering first season at the club.
The fee is understood to be around £21million, with only a few minor details needing to be sorted to get Vidal signed.
