Vandal Arrested After Dozing Off At Crime Scene In Lagos (Suspect)

A man who claimed to be a farmer, Usman Jubril, has been arrested for allegedly vandalising a solar energy system installed in Government College, Ajara, Badagry, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the drunken suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps after he slept off at the scene of the crime.
The 22-year-old indigene of Maiduguri, Borno State, was arrested along with one Emeka Ugonna, who allegedly attempted to steal a car parked by the roadside at NEPA Quarters, Ikeja.
Some items, including a key and a magnet, were allegedly recovered from Ugonna.
Jubril, in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, confessed to the crime. He, however, said he acted under the influence of alcohol.
The father of two explained that he had gone to have fun on the premises of the school on September 2, after selling his goods.
He said, “I am a farmer and live in Ipokia, Ogun State. I took cassava and corn to Badagry, but I didn’t make enough sales.  I took the goods to Seme, where I sold everything. I came back to Badagry in the evening to have fun.
“I bought three bottles of gin and went with them to the school to watch a football match. I drank everything and took 500ml tramadol. In drunken stupor, I threw a stone at the glass housing the solar system and it broke. I went inside the facility and slept off.
“I smoke Indian hemp, but that was the first time I would take alcohol. It was the drink that affected my faculty. I didn’t even know how I got to their (NSCDC) custody.”
But 20-year-old Ugonna, who hails from Abia State, said he was accosted when he wanted to look at the car mirror to know if a fez cap he used looked good on him.
He said, “On Sunday, August 26, I was walking along Ikeja GRA around 4.30pm, while some people were holding a party by the roadside. As I wanted to check my fez cap in the mirror of the car, a security man at the party called me.
“He accused me of being a car thief. The key they recovered from me is my brother’s apartment key. I live with him at the GRA. I don’t know how to drive. I am a bricklayer.”
The NSCDC Commandant in Lagos State, Tajudeen Balogun, said men of the command had received several complaints about the vandalism of solar energy facilities in some public schools in the state.
The commandant stated that timely intelligence report and cooperation of members of the public in the Badagry area facilitated Jubril’s arrest.
“We will continue to arrest vandals, as well as those that buy stolen government property. The two suspects will be arraigned after investigations.
“The command also recovered 3,000 litres of stolen petrol at Ijora Olopa on Thursday, September 7. The suspects ran away on sighting our anti-vandal team.
“Criminally-minded people are advised to engage themselves in lawful jobs,” Balogun added.

“Biafrans Are Touts And Agberos They Attacked Us And Beat Us All Because Our Car Seat Had Nigerian Flag On It” – Igbo Lady Cries Out

A Facebook user and NHIS officer, Bridget Anurika Eze, took to the platform to narrate how she was harassed yesterday by IPOB members despite being Biafran.
According to her, All her life She has never had a first hand experience of public harassment like yesterday. She wrote;
MY EXPERIENCE WITH IPOB BOYS TODAY.
All my life I have never had a first hand experience of public harassment like today.
As part of our normal routine in the office and the scheme at large, we left for facilities inspection at Aba, and off Aba along port Harcourt road.
After we were done and coming back, we got to enyimba Junction/bakassi,coman see ipob boys terrorizing people, everyone running for their lives. We kept on moving but slowly and noticed that the road was kinda dry. Before we knew it ipob boys rushed out from nowhere and attacked our hilux, they where more than 15, carrying different weapons, one of them used shovel and hit the hilux hard, before I could blink my eyes they opened the door and started dragging us out, I heard my oga chorused , NO please, we are BIAFRANS ” I joined them o, and was shouting, biafra, biafra.. This boys weren’t even listening, one used a heavy big stone and was hitting my oga, others were removing the car Cover seat that’s made of Nigeria color /coat of arm. That we are not biafra, that’s why we had that on, that were is our flag or means of identification…. I didn’t know what to do, they dragged me outta the car, I came down didn’t know what to do, I thought of hiding under the hilux but no way because they were just everywhere. I was just praying my last prayer just incase they decide to kill us. Ever seen or witnessed any case of jungle justice? Now, that’s exactly the scene today.
The other part of the road was another set of ipob boys damaging a truck full of goods, and another dangote truck full of cement on fire already.
All this I witnessed/saw within 20mins…
Finally I heard oya enter your motor and run for your life.
We sped off.
It was just I, the coordinator, and the driver. I started asking the driver why they allowed us go, our driver said he gave them 500naira that’s why they said we should go.
On our way still driving carefully, because they are everywhere, we saw soldiers in their convoy coming down to calm the situation.
On entering umuahia, the check points are tight, every living thing except the driver inside a bus, car, keke must come down and raise his/her two hands up to be sure the person isn’t with any weapon.
Oh well…  😐
Until there’s a legal/defined way to go about this biafra thingy, there will never be peace. If you haven’t experienced this ipob boys and there madness you will not understand , it’s not about writing epistle on Facebook in the comfort of your home that they should give us biafra this and that. This boys are terrorizing us, their people, the igbos per se.
Imagine if they had killed us or any of us. Just like that.
Most of this ipob boys are touts, and thieves, I almost forgot to say that they took our drivers phone too.
And returned it when he gave them the money.
This is too much really.
My heart is still heavy.
Find attached the selfies I took before and after, u’ll notice the car seat cover that was removed. I couldn’t take pictures of the other scenes because I was scared.
I just Thank God we came out of this alive.

Fresh Deadly Disease Breaks Out In Nigeria

The Federal Government on Friday alerted Nigerians to the outbreak of a killer disease known as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome in the country.

Deadly Disease in Nigeria

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, who announced the outbreak of the disease at a news conference in Abuja, said the disease had killed one person.

He added that another person affected by the disease was responding to treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Urging Nigerians not to panic, Adewole said that the Federal Government was doing everything possible to check the outbreak.

The minister described the health condition as an unusual allergic reaction to medications found in Nigeria and some parts of Europe.

He said,
“We have to find a means to communicate with Nigerians, so they should all be aware of this dangerous disease and it is the sole business of the government to enlighten the society by trying to increase their awareness, knowledge and to improve their quality way of life.”
The minister urged Nigerians to be vigilant and seek urgent medical attention should they notice any sign of a rare disease.

Adewole urged members of the public to be more careful while using medications of all kinds.

He announced that the call became necessary considering the fact that a sibling of marathoner, Fedeshola Adedayo, died of the ailment.

He called for increased awareness in the use of drugs and in the reading of drug leaflets.

The minister also called attention to the need for thorough scrutiny of drug leaflets before taking such drugs to guide against adverse effects.

He urged Nigerians to always involve health practitioners when unexplained reactions occur as a result of infections or in the use of drugs as the syndrome is unpredictable and more prevalent in women.

At the press conference, a Senior Consultant Physician/Dermatologist at the National Hospital, Abuja, Dr. Olanrewaju Falodun, explained the symptoms of the disease and the cases being treated in his hospital.
“SJS is an immune complex mediated hypersensitivity reaction that typically involves the skin and mucous membranes and was first described in 1922 by Albert Stevens and Frank Johnson,” Falodun said.
“SJS is a rare and unpredictable reaction, and is also a minor form of toxic epidermal necrolysis with less than 10 per cent body surface area involvement.”
“SJS is a rare but serious and potentially life-threatening contagious drug reaction. Incidence of SJS is estimated between 1.1 and 7.1 cases per million per year and is more prevalent in women than men. Incidence in Europe is two per million per year.”
According to him, the incidence of the disease is higher in Africa because of the extensive use of herbal drugs and the prevalence of HIV.

Falodun explained that the symptoms of the SJS disease include fever, sore throat, runny nose, fatigue, general aches and pains, ulcers in mouth, genitals, anal regions as well as conjunctivitis.

According to him the health complications include pigmentation problems, skin scarring, scarred genitals, joint pains, lung diseases, obstructive disorders and eye complications, adhesions, ulcers, and blindness.

The medical doctor said the cause of the disease was unknown, adding that self-medications appeared to be one of its causes.

He urged Nigerians to avoid self-medication, adding that individuals with previous drug reactions should report to health care practitioners.

The management of the disease include cessation of suspected drugs; hospital admission, preferably in burns unit/intensive care; nutritional and fluid replacement; temperature maintenance; pain relief and mouth care.

A pathologist, Dr. Idris Durojaiye, described SJS as “a very severe reaction to drugs.”

He said,
“The whole skin will peel off but it is usually linked to a drug that the person has taken, so if there is an outbreak, it is because people are reacting to a particular drug being circulated.
“It is usually doctors that can try to identify the drugs that may be responsible because if there is an outbreak, it means there is a pattern. So basically, it is the duty of the health authorities to trace the pattern to know if there is a particular drug that is responsible for it.
“Normally, a patient cannot know if he would react to a drug because you cannot know if you have never reacted to the drug before. So my advice is that whatever drugs that people have reacted to in the past, they should try and avoid it. But the problem is that if you have never taken a drug before, you cannot know if you will react to it.
“If the health authorities can find out if the patients took something that is common to both of them; there has to be a link somewhere if the patients are in the same location.”
Former Chairman and Secretary, Nigeria Medical Association, Lagos State Chapter, Dr. Olusola Olowoselu, described SJS as not completely new.

He said,
“It is something we in the medical profession encounter from time to time in the hospital. The disease is mostly managed by dermatologists.
“We encounter it all the time especially among patients using certain types of drugs like Septrin, Metirapin, and a host of others. Some individuals are sensitive and so their bodies react to medications in different ways.
“Beyond medications, infection can also play a role in persons being afflicted with the ailment. It is something we see and deal with all the time in the hospital.”
The Medical Director of OAR Hospital, Ile-Epo, Lagos, Dr. Abiodun Ojifinni, also said that SJS was not a new disease in Nigeria and that it does not break out regularly.

Ojifinnin identified the symptoms of the disease as rashness all over the human body and fever, among others.
“The disease is contagious and once it kills one or two people, it disappears to break out some years later,” he said.
The symptoms of the disease include facial swelling, tongue swelling, hives, skin pain, blisters on the skin and shedding of the skin, according to Mayo Clinic.

It described the disease as a “rare and unpredictable reaction”, which is usually “triggered by a medication or an infection.”

Drugs identified as possible causes of SJS include anti-gout medications, such as allopurinol; pain relievers such as acetaminophen (Tylenol, others), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others); and naproxen sodium (Aleve).

Others include medications to fight infection, such as penicillin, medications to treat seizures or mental illness (anticonvulsants and antipsychotics) and radiation therapy

The clinic identified infections that can cause the disease to include: “Herpes (herpes simplex or herpes zoster); Pneumonia; HIV and Hepatitis.”

In the United States, about 300 new diagnoses are made each year. The condition is more common in adults than in children. Women are affected more often than men, with cases occurring at a two to one ratio.

If 10 per cent of the body surface area is involved, the disease has a mortality rate of around five per cent.

EFCC Arrests Bank MD Over Alleged Diezani’s $115million Loot

The bank chief executive was taken into EFCC custody three days ago for presiding over the receipt of such huge cash and helping to distribute it to beneficiaries two days to the last general elections.

Diezani Maduekwe

The bank CEO is said to have violated extant law by not reporting the receipt and warehousing of the cash to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, as required by law. Diezani is said to have summoned the bank chief to her Abuja home and told him to prepare to receive foreign currency running into billions of Naira from four companies and to convert it to Naira and pay them to designated beneficiaries on her behalf.

A day after the instruction from her, four companies stormed the bank with various amounts of cash and were promptly received by the bank.

A breakdown of the funds given by the EFCC shows that Actus Integrated paid in $17,884, Northern Base Gas Company, $60m; Midwestern Oil and Gas, $9.5m; and Laitan Adesanya, $1.35million.

Diezani on her part, allegedly lodged $26 million cash into the same account same day. It was learned that shortly after paying in the cash, Diezani’s son, Ugonna, approached the detained MD and furnished him with the list of beneficiaries of the cash as instructed by his mother.

Vanguard was told that although the detained bank chief complained that he would not have enough time to cash in Naira to effect the immediate distribution of the money as instructed by the then minister, she asked him to use every available cash to pay the beneficiaries and use the Dollar as collateral.

A top official of the commission confirmed to Vanguard last night that the man had made useful confessions to operatives.

The source did not, however, say when the bank official would be charged to court or if he would refund the money to the government. Diezani could not be reached for comments last night.

Managing Director of a leading Nigerian commercial bank has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly helping former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke to launder $115 million cash.

“Why We Purchased Land Cruiser Jeeps For N36.5million Each” — Senate Explains

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Services, Ibrahim Gobir, has defended the Senate’s decision to pay N36.5 million for each of dozens of Toyota Land Cruisers recently acquired for senators.

Nigerian senators

The senate has come under fire for apparently spending far more than the open market cost of each of the vehicles, and more importantly for spending the huge amount at a time of national economic crisis.

Mr. Gobir told journalists on Tuesday in Abuja that the specification of the acquired vehicles were higher than those reported in the media.

According to him, the specification of Land Cruisers was VXR V8 not V6.
The car we bought is Land Cruiser VXR V8, not V6,” said Mr. Gobir.
The showroom price is about N31 million minimum and then when you add 10 per cent tax it becomes 36.5 million.
In fact you can go to the internet and download it; it is very simple, we can give you the website, and you can see them.
So, I think what we have purchased the car for is very reasonable.
He also said that the Senate purchased only 36 vehicles, contrary to media reports that it procured 108 cars.
A lot has been happening within the last two days concerning the issue of cars, car loan, appropriation and cost of the cars and we feel it necessary to come out and inform the public about it.
This is so, so that people can have a better understanding of the whole thing to avoid wrong perception as being created among Nigerians.
That we bought 108 cars is totally wrong; it is not correct. We bought 36 cars.
These 36 cars, each senator in each state is either a chairman or a vice chairman and we gave one car to each state to share as utility car. So, we don’t have money to buy 108 cars.
We had a closed session and they agreed that we should give one car per state; we sat down and agreed who needs the car most and that was what happened,” he said.
Mr. Gobir also denied allegations that the senate purchased the cars without appropriation.
According to him, on the issue of buying cars without appropriation, it is totally wrong because this has been appropriated in the 2015 budget.
So, we used what we have in the 2015 budget to buy the 36 cars so that it can go round to each state,” he stated.
On reports that the lawmakers earlier accessed loans for the purchase of cars, Mr. Gobir said no lawmaker got any form of loan for the purchase of car.

He responded to massive criticisms from Nigerians about the Senate’s insensitivity in spending such money on cars given Nigeria’s present economic challenge, saying purchase of 36 cars as against 109 was informed by senate’s concern for state of the economy.
We are supposed to buy 109 cars but because of the paucity of funds, because of our sensitivity and concern for lack of funds, we bought only 36 to go round per state,” Mr. Gobir said.
He decried the level of criticism on the National Assembly in spite of efforts to cut down cost to meet present economic reality.
Come to think of it, there is no minister that hasn’t got about three, four cars – one Land Cruiser, maybe a back-up and two Hilux cars.
There is no director in the civil service that hasn’t got a car. There is no permanent secretary that hasn’t got a Land Cruiser.
In fact, every House of Assembly member has either a Prado or a Land Cruiser and here is a senator you say he cannot have one Land Cruiser,” he added.

“Igbo Not Included In Buhari’s Development Agenda” — N.I.C.E Chief

Leader of the Nigerian Igbo Community in Europe, NICE, Chief Chris Ebede, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari administration to strive harder to provide good governance for Nigerians in line with his campaign.

Buhari

Reacting to the controversy trailing the non-inclusion of the N60 billion Lagos-Calabar coastal rail project in the 2016 Budget, he lamented that the Igbo were still under siege by the authorities in Nigeria, which, he said, had culminated in the abandonment of the South-East in key infrastructural and developmental facets in order to keep the zone in perpetual under-development and political slavery.

According to him, the region is yet to be factored into the development agenda of the current administration even when the ingenuity of the Igbo is never in doubt.
The roads there are impassable, the dredging of the River Niger and construction of a second Niger bridge have become political tools to be used at every election period to deceive the people.
The region has the largest concentration of those engaged in trading and by extension importers of goods.
The roads in the South-East are one of the worst maintained all over the federation. The state governments, especially Anambra and Enugu have done commendable jobs in rehabilitating state roads. But this is not complemented by the Federal Government”, Ebede stated.

“Anyone Criticizing Buhari Should Have His Brain Checked” — Oyegun

National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, weekend, defended President Muhammadu Buhari’s foreign trips, saying that people like Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State and other critics of the president over his foreign trips need their heads examined.

John Oyegun, President Buhari
John Oyegun and President Buhari

Saying that Fayose was ignorant of the problems confronting the nation and the solutions to them, he insisted that President Buhari was on the verge of restoring the nation’s lost glory outside the country, noting that the President’s foreign trips had gone a long way in helping to save the nation after what he described as Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s most disastrous outing in 16 years.

Speaking to journalists in Benin City, Edo State, Oyegun noted that the forces of darkness and economic saboteurs opposed to the nation’s growth and development were bent on frustrating the efforts of the APC-led administration under Buhari in his efforts at rescuing the nation from the ongoing fuel crisis and revitalizing the ailing economy.

Governor Fayose had last week allegedly written a letter to the Chinese government asking it to shun President Buhari’s proposal to secure a $6 billion loan for Nigeria. But Oyegun, who reacted to the criticisms, said:
Most people do not recognise the very sorry state of the nation’s economy and the fact that the country’s economy was run aground and crashed, which contributed in no small measure to the crash of crude oil from N120 per barrel to a miserable N30 to N40 per barrel at the international market.

Senators Fight Over Sharing Of Exotic Cars (Land Cruiser Jeeps)

The secret distribution of the first batch of the brand new 108 Sport Utility Vehicles to 36 senators last Thursday has started generating tension and ill-feelings among members of the upper chamber.

Nigerian Senators fight over cars
File photo

According to investigations by a correspondent representing Punch, it is revealed that each senator from the 36 states had collected the keys to the Land Cruiser jeeps.

A senator who craved anonymity, confided in our correspondent on Sunday, that only identified members of the pro-Saraki’s Like Minds Senators were favoured in the distribution of the vehicles.

He alleged that except for Lagos and Osun states where Saraki had no identifiable loyalist, his supporters in the South-West geopolitical zones were already in possession of  the vehicles since Thursday.

He said,
Those who collected their keys to the vehicles were identified Saraki supporters who had been following him to the courts since his corruption case started. So, they were being rewarded for their loyalty.
The beneficiaries from Ondo, Oyo, Ogun were die-hard loyalists of Saraki but the beneficiaries from Lagos and Osun states were not members of the Like Minds. The senators who collected from Lagos and Osun,  had the consent of their two other colleagues.
I know they would push some of us to the last batch but we are not bothered. They met with us seeking our cooperation to move the Senate forward being members of the same party but see the type of injustice they are perpetrating now?
The senator denied the campaign by the Saraki loyalists that members of the SUF wanted to sell their own jeeps to create an impression before their constituents that they rejected them.

He said,
There is no way anybody could have sold the vehicles because they are properties of the National Assembly. They were purchased by the management and they remained the National Assembly properties until  we decide to buy them after the end of our tenure.
The Senate spokesperson, Sabi Abdullahi, refused to make any comment on the issue when contacted by our correspondent on Sunday.

Abdullahi said,
I don’t want to make any comment on the issue either relating to the distribution or the process of procurement.
Efforts to get the reactions of some of the beneficiaries failed on Sunday as none of them picked their calls while text messages sent to their mobiles  were not replied.

“We Miss Jonathan” — Nigerians Lament Over Hard Economy

Nigerians have had to weigh their options, with some seeking alternatives, following the recent report of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration failing to pay special allowance to security operatives attached to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Goodluck Jonathan

According to the report, the development is causing dissatisfaction among the security personnel.

Prior to when the present administration came into power, all the security agents at the Villa under former President Goodluck Jonathan enjoyed the allowance up until March, 2015, while his administration left those of April and May, 2015, unpaid.

Some Nigerians have aired their views on the rather controversial issue, below are their thoughts.

Stanley Nnabuagha said:
Some say I rely on luck, but was it luck that got rid of fuel queues, revived our textile industries, rescued our banking sector, ensured total radar coverage for Nigeria, is reviving our rail infrastructure or expanded the economy by over 8% making Nigeria the 4th fastest growing economy in the world? Those are the result of hard work. Only hard work can make Nigeria work – GEJ
Onyebuchi Nwafor said:
We’re missing you the immediate past president, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the one and only true democratic president this country ever had, the silent achiever.
Irem Kelechi attempted hitting President Buhari and the APC below that belt with his statement.

He said:
And he said he is not a one chance president? Keep promising Nigerians. All promises cancelled (APC).
According to Emmanuel Tom,
Those who voted for Buhari, have more now to regret.
However, some other Nigerians did not see the situation as one that should be yardstick for comparing Jonathan and Buhari. Some even went as much as sighting the trending issue of the missing Chibok girls that were abducted about 2-years ago.

They claimed that the incident occurred under the watch of Jonathan and as reports have it, it was a lack of interest on the part of the immediate past administration that made the situation linger this long.

“I’m Working Hard, Nigerians Will Feel My Impact” — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said he would work hard within the lifespan of his administration to the extent that Nigerians would witness progress and feel the impact of his administration.

President Buhari

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President spoke in Shanghai, China, during separate meetings he had with the Mayor of the Chinese city of Shanghai, Mr. Yang Xiong; and the Director of Shanghai Free Trade Zone, Liu Fangzhou.

He said his administration would give priority to the building and development of resilient and viable cities comparable with other developed cities across the globe.

He added that the Federal Government would give full support to the Free Trade and Export Processing Zones in the country to spur rapid economic development.

The President, who visited the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, said Nigeria was prepared to learn how to make the country’s cities more viable from those that had achieved development.

He added,
We have already identified the development of infrastructure which will bring industries that create jobs and help us to diversify the economy.
We are going to work hard to achieve these within the period we have in office. Nigerians will see progress and feel the impact.
Commending the hard work and success story of the city of Shanghai, Buhari said the virtues of hard work were central to every human achievement and development.

In his remarks, the Mayor of Shanghai expressed the willingness of several Chinese businesses to key into the vision of the Chinese President Xi Jinping for Africa by investing in Nigeria.

$2billion Loan: China Just Scammed Nigeria And Buhari Had No Idea (Must Read)

Some Nigerians are jubilating over $2b loan from China and the so called Yuan trading deal. China wants to lend us 2 billion dollars, but they want to give us in Yuan and not the dollar itself.

Buhari, Jin Ping

They are not handling us cash, but service exchange; meaning if we want to buy iron rod, we buy it from Chinese company and they pay the company on our behalf. If we want to construct railway, they will construct it for us and take the money out of the loan. In the end, we are bound to award contracts to them, cutting out competition from others and fairplay to others (non Chinese company can't bid or compete to reduce the cost.) They get to value the contract and determine the price, meaning they can sell something worth 200 Naira for N2000 and we don't have a choice 'cos it is on credit.

The worst of it is that China want us to pay back in dollars, that is not all, we are moving our foreign reserve to fake currency(Yuan) a currency that is manipulated openly by the Chinese government.

Did anyone ask Lamido Sanusi what happened to some of our reserve he moved to Yuan few years ago? They sold us Yuan at 4 to a dollar, only to devalue their currency few weeks latter to 9 Yuan per $.

Many Nigerians don't know that even Chinese company don't want yuan, nobody want it, Chinese foreign reserve is in dollars, China is the largest holder of US bond, they want dollars by all means.

Also, China have more lobbyists in Washington DC than any other nations on earth, begging Washington politicians to always make policy in their favour, how can such country save us from USD?

Has anyone asked why China hasn't built any refinery in Nigeria?? They have the money, they want the profit, but never did it.

If China does anything against Washington interest in Nigeria, USA have too much political power over China, they will just tell them not to do it. China will continue to inflate the contract price, refuse to complete the project and deceive us further.

I don't blame Chinese leaders for trying to scam us, I blame our leaders for not being smart enough. What do you expect when you have political hacks negotiating on behalf of Nigeria against smart professionals from China. I was thinking Nigeria political leaders will do research about Chinese lobbyists in Washington and understand the interest they are protecting before believing in Chinese version of Trojan horse.

We are the only one that can help ourselves, let's implement true federalism system and free market. Development is a culture and not a product, we can't buy it no matter how much money we have or borrow..

You must be living in a PARALLEL world if you think that Nigeria's intention of being a clearing house for the Yuan in Africa means the naira will now hold steady.

If you like tie your currency with Thailand Baht or Ghanaian Cedi, the value of your currency will always have the value it deserves.

Hong Kong for instance is an administrative region of China, but guess what, its currency is firmly tied to the US dollar!

The Yuan is not automatically going to be operating independent of the dollar to boost the naira in any way.

The only thing that has happened here is that the Yuan becomes an accepted currency of exchange to facilitate direct business with Chinese people. This will not in anyway strengthen the naira but the gains will be in the avoidance of double exchange from dollar to Yuan.

The Yuan will swing with the wind depending on what happens to the world's controlling currency , the dollar.

The naira will continue its natural slide as you produce and export very little and even your trade with China becomes very expensive as the world's comparative exchange rate will not wait for the Naira/Yuan pretend marriage. The value of the naira will continue to be subject to the international exchange rate, which is controlled by and inextricably linked to (you guessed it?) the DOLLAR!

The silly idea that this arrangement could crash the dollar is only palatable to people living in a cocoon, in a cuckoo land (Nigeria), with a totally warped sense of reality.

The real winners here are the Chinese who have found another place to ship their milling population to recolonise on the cheap.

Nigeria has taken the path of double parallel which will be unsustainable in the medium term as a consumer nation.

The naira will continue to fall unless you can sell more oil or start exporting something the rest of the world would pay you for.

My projection for the naira is 500 to $1 by year end if the oil price does not improve drastically and we sell oil, the only thing we 'produce'.

“PDP Will Return To Power In 2019” — David Mark

The electoral misfortune Peoples Democratic Party suffered in the 2015 general elections which ended its 16-year rule was a consequence of imposition of candidates, a former Senate President, David Mark, has said.

Mr. Mark said the party must avoid imposition of candidates if it must return to power in 2019.

The former senate president has been linked to eight undeclared offshore companies by leaked #PanamaPapers in breach of Nigeria’s code of conduct law for public officers.

He spoke on Monday in Otukpo, his Benue State country home where he held a meeting with PDP faithful, according to his spokesperson, Paul Mumeh.

Ahead of the PDP congresses and convention,
Mr. Mark canvassed strongly for the repositioning of the Party (PDP) if it must return to power in the next general election.”
We must come to terms with reality that PDP lost the last general election because of over bearing tendencies of some leaders who imposed candidates on the people.
It is inevitable that we must change from the old ways and allow the will of the people prevail. Unfolding events clearly show that the PDP is the party for the people. But we must not take them for granted by forcing unpopular candidates on the people.
The coast is clear that the PDP has the road map for peace, unity and development of Nigeria. Nigerians now know the difference,” he said.
Mr. Mark therefore counselled that popular candidates be put forward to “drive the ship of the party ahead of the next general elections.”

He stressed that the PDP has bright chances of returning to power if all party faithful agree to work together in one accord.

To achieve fortune of returning to power, he stated that people must learn to sacrifice their individual or personal interest for the larger interests of the people.

Also at the meeting were State Chairman of the PDP, Emmanuel Agbo; former Interior Minister, Abba Moro and Geofrey Ejiga.

The trio corroborated Mr. Mark’s position that the party should repositioned.

In separate remarks, they said that the “continued non-performance” of the ruling All Progressive Congress ( APC) was giving the PDP “a clean bill of health to return to power but must avoid the pitfall of imposition of candidates for elections”.

“Arresting Jonathan Will Spell Doom For Nigeria” — IYC Warns Buhari

The umbrella body of Ijaw youths, the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is laying a foundation for the arrest of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The IYC, however, advised the anti-graft agency to shelve any plan to “persecute” the former President, insisting that such a move would spell doom for the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Speaking at a news conference on Saturday to mark the burial of a former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, the IYC President, Mr. Udengs Eradiri, said most of the close allies of Jonathan had been arrested by the EFCC.

He particularly condemned the recent arrest and detention of Jonathan’s cousin and contractor, Mr. Robert Azibaola, over an alleged $40m contract fraud.

Eradiri said Ijaw youths would not allow Azibaola, Jonathan or any rising Ijaw leader to be persecuted by the EFCC, the way the Federal Government dealt with the late Alamieyeseigha.

He said,
They have arrested almost all our people. Azibaola was arrested by the EFCC and we are calling on the EFCC to stop persecuting him further and charge him to court if there are issues.
They detained him for a long time, forcing him to make statements to indict former President Jonathan. Azibaola is a businessman, a contractor, and has the right, like every other Nigerian, to get contracts. Why will the Niger Delta case be a different one?
We noticed that the same way they persecuted Alamieyeseigha has continued. After Goodluck Jonathan, our people who contributed to that administration, are being persecuted by this government.
The recent one is the ploy to arrest Goodluck Jonathan, which is unfolding every day. This must stop. Goodluck Jonathan is the most performing President that Nigeria has ever had. We are proud of him.
Everyday, there is a calculated attempt to whittle down the achievements of former President Jonathan. We call on Nigerians to mount pressure on the government to focus on leading Nigeria right rather than looking for ways to bring down the achievements of Jonathan.
Buhari should please focus on governance rather than persecution of people who have added value. We are not happy about it and today, we use Alamieyeseigha’s death as a point of contact. The world has seen that from Alamieyeseigha, it has trickled down to all the Niger Delta people.”
Speaking on the alleged removal of 10 per cent community equity from the new Petroleum Industry Bill, Eradiri asked the government to do the needful.

He added that the Federal Government ought to have known that community ownership would ameliorate the years of crises in the Niger Delta region.

The IYC President added,
For us, we will not beg for it. We will not even lobby anybody. The oil is our oil and we will take it. If they like, they should put it, if they don’t like, they should leave it. We expect that this country should have commonsense by including community participation.
In the issue of pipeline surveillance, this 10 per cent would have covered pipeline surveillance. Once the people know that they have 10 per cent in this business, they will protect it.
