President Buhari and German Chancellor Angela Merkel |
Many (like me) have expected and believed him (of course I still do) to be the man to bring the much needed 'change' in Nigeria but no one ever saw this presidential blunder coming just few weeks after his inauguration.
Speaking on Channels TV, President Buhari referred to German Chancellor Angela Merkel as 'President Michelle' of 'West Germany'.. unacceptable!
An average Nigerian student knows that 'West Germany' no longer exists and it's Angela Merkel not Michelle.
Well, trust Nigerians.. they took to Twitter to mercilessly slaughter our beloved president.
Below are some of the reactions..
Let stop castigating this people, many of us commit worst blunder than this and heaven did not fall.
ReplyDeleteSensible!
DeleteThis mistake is 2uu expensive. Let's put it straight. It is a wholistic mistake. It is a dent on the image of Nigeria.
DeleteOur penchant for tolerating, no celebrating, mediocrity, is the reason why were are where we are as a country, and not corruption.
Deletemy dear forget. do you know what it means to be a president? it means you are qualified at least 95%. before he come out to speak, he should put all necessary words in order
DeleteI dey laugh!!!
ReplyDeleteme dey laugh kwa
DeleteNobody is above mistake,it could happen to anybody.Mistake is part of life and without mistake no correction...life goes on.
ReplyDeleteYou really call that a mistake??? Wow
DeleteHahahahahah! Nigerians I salute you. What kind of people are you? Be ready for more. Ifeonye acho ko'fu.
ReplyDeleteOops this is a blunder that is why having presidential debate is necessary , he refuse to debate his opponent he avoided all subject areas of the debate including foreign affairs.
ReplyDeleteMy frnd Unuigboirunmole or wetin u call ur name? u wll nid Encarta dictionary to chek ur grammar before u criticize d old man. onliden u cn knw who is in manifest error.
DeleteI beg make una leave my presido alone.we no say na northerner e be and we are proud of him. no matter fresident Buhari is belly belly kwareet.
ReplyDeletejoker
Deleteso ur problem is the mistake of the president and not his effort to build the nation. what u are saying is not going to help nigeria to move forwad
ReplyDeleteYou seem not to realise heis ut of touch of present day reality. How will he bring the desired change?
DeleteNo comment until LIE Lai Mohammed comes up with some explanations. Mtcheeeew
ReplyDeleteI tired for una oh, more are coming
DeleteIs Merkels,or Merket or Michelle an Hausa name, Yoruba name, Igbo name or Efik name?. Foreigners and Non Yorubas call me Tale and Teye instead of Taye and so what?. Is it pronouncing a German name correctly that will solve Nigeria corruption, insecurity, hunger and unemployment problems?. PMB has not committed any mistake because of wrong pronunciation of a foreigners name. Stop this colonial mental syndrome and let Nigeria run with the change race in every nook and cranny of Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteNice 1. I luv dat.
DeleteMind you, locally, Hausas don't get Yoruba names accurately, and do, the other way round, not to talk of foreigners, who don;t get the correct pronunciation of our names. Don't use bomb to kill mosquitoes, and use a strand of broom to attack elephants. Habahhh!
Deletethank you . I love your responses
DeleteEmm, I don't know, but you guys are just talking like apologists. He didn't mispronounce the name; he called the WRONG NAME!! Different thing. And you guys are just glossing over the Germany/West Germany debacle.
DeleteExpect more from him
ReplyDeletewhy are people always looking for this man's mistakes? please let all of us join hands and pray for him to suceed. Afterall, no one is perfect, it only God that is perfrect.
ReplyDeleteIt's simply ROFOROFO
ReplyDeletethat is the change you people need
ReplyDeleteSo what is wrong with making a few blunders.
ReplyDeleteWow..... These is a big one. Mr pressy please avoid making such heavy simple mistakes, never the less, we still believe in you, so please make us proud..... Great Nigeria; Great people.
ReplyDeletehe is a human being bond to make mistakes, President buhari is not a prophet that will bring a solutions to every nigerian, no any living soul can change this country at once.
ReplyDeletecritics be careful.
When you're not schooled it manifest in everything you do. Sorry Naija
ReplyDeleteit is good that the man that bends to look at one mans 'yansh' has millions watching his i wonder how many times you make mistake in a day at least days went by before you got one. WHO IS PERFECT? Let them point out the next one. ... hypocrite!
ReplyDeleteIt is just a pity where past leaders and professors plunged this country into is where we are now. What a pity Jonathan with his PHD, what do we have to show for it? Change is what we needed. Hypocrite, tribalism and sentiments will not work now, since it has stop working since, Forward ever backward never. Clueless President GEJ gone for ever.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's what you call a "major mistake"? Ask Angela Markel to consciously pronounce Mohammadu Buhari, and you will see a major general mistake!
ReplyDeleteDon't mind them, I am also sure that if we ask Angela Merkel, she would refer to our Minister of Foreign Affairs as president Omo Sexy of The Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria
DeleteFellow Nigerians, whether he calls West Germany or Germany, Does that change your dollar rate? Be objective and talk reasonableness.
ReplyDeleteokay now let see the change, you are a brainless fellow nigerian just like your president.to change this country, we need an educated person, not an SSCE holder. he will just take us backward
ReplyDeletewetin concern concern west or east carry on jare white man fit pronounce ya name?
ReplyDeletelets leave the thrash and pray for our president success
ReplyDeleteplease you guys shd just let him be,he is try to learn Pepe GEJ wife.
ReplyDeletemake una liv our president alone, it is better to make common grammatical mistake than to make a mistake that will ruin our national economy. more Grace our beloved president.
ReplyDeletenobody is above mistake, not as a president of a country. he shd know these things in his finger tip.
ReplyDeleteIs only Allah that will help us in country when our president mistakenly called a particular name and you people said he had made serious mistake, you forgot nobody is above mistake. President carry go!!!!!! Since he assumed office, are not enjoying electricity in your areas.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me Mr. Author, it is absolutely false to say that "...no one ever saw this presidential blunder coming..." Many of us saw it coming and we still see many others following. Those who never saw it coming are the ones who refused to be reasonable, were blinded by hate campaigns and dismissed every unfavourable incident concerning APC and MB as "propaganda". But those who were rational, factual and void of sentiments saw this coming when MB set certain precedents. Remember 1. Confidence for Congress in APC? 2. Nigeria for National in INEC? 3. Osinbade for Osinbajo at a campaign rally? 4. 6 months for 6 weeks of election postponement? (the infamous "Who Wants to be a President" video which many of you called propaganda even though they were facts?). And now besides the President Mitchell of West Germany gaffe, he also said "Chief Defense of Staff" when he actually meant "Chief of Defense Staff" at the Lake Chad Commission's meeting held recently. I expect many more to follow in quick succession. I don't miss Mama Peace at all, do you?
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful!!!
DeleteMay Ubeku or what ever you call youself, do you think this is a blunder? this man (PMB) is busy trying to fix the mess caused by the past governments, he doesn't even have time to address somebody. anyway even if does am very sure it was under pressure because all he has in mind now is Nigeria. I mean how to fix Nigeria in the right possition it oath to be
ReplyDeletei no that if god say yes nobody can say no, nobody above mistake.just let's pray for him to take Nigeria to the promise land.
ReplyDeleteShike nan!!!
DeleteHate campaign. Nigerians are now being faced with ethnic related hate campaign even amongst neighbors. This shameful experiences reared its hugely head prior, during and after the election. It shows how divided we are as a nation. May God heal the wounds of this nation.
ReplyDeleteNice to shape our President but let it not be out of proportion suggesting the old dangerous politics. He faulted, that gives concern but we must know that he is but just a human being hence imperfect
ReplyDeleteWe need a literate and able leader, not a Leader that don't know book
ReplyDeleteHabba!!!!
Deletecheee nawa 4 unaooo, wish kend bad bele b dis one sef, dis pdp pple, weda una like it or not dis country most move 4ward. yeye theif pple.
ReplyDeleteNIGERIANS ARE NOT SINCERE TO THEMSELVES. WHEN JONATHAN WAS IN GOVERNMENT HIS WIFE MADE SOME ENGLISH BLUNDER, IT WAS THE TALK OF THE TOWN. SHE WAS NOT EVEN THE PRESIDENT. NOW THE PRESIDENT HIMSELF IS MAKING THIS COSTLY ENGLISH MISTAKES YOUR ARE THERE SAYING THAT IT DOES NOT MATTER. DO YOU PEOPLE THINK AT ALL.. IF JONATHAN WAS THE ONE MAKING THIS MISTAKES HOW WILL YOU FEEL. YOU COULD HAVE KILL HIM. IF HIS MEMORY IS FAILING HIM, WHILE BECOMING THE NUMBER ONE CITIZEN OF THIS COUNTRY. ANOTHER COSTLY MISTAKE MADE IN NIGERIA HERE. GOD HELP US.
ReplyDeleteShhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiii
Deletewhen he was last in power, Germany was called West Germany until 1990, with a president to preside over it not chancellor
ReplyDeleteI dey crase, na my fresident I dey abuse kwo?
ReplyDeleteThe man is busy trying to find solutions to our problems while some idle Nigerians are looking out for his mistakes. What a shame.
ReplyDeletewe should all pray for PMB to lead us to the promised land rather than criticizing him. most of u that criticize make many mistakes even ur father. truthisbitter continue pointing to mistakes of ur president, a day is coming that younger generations will point at yours not only that embarrass you much more than u do now
ReplyDeleteI can actually see that we are not united in this country, it is easy to throw abusive words to jonathan and his wife but when it is buhari it is all well and good. Apart from the mistake he has been making what meaningfull action has he emback on since becoming the president of nigeria. All we hear is give him some time, i wonder how long some people will continue to make excuses for him.
ReplyDeletewhy is boko Haram still bombing??????
ReplyDeleteIf u do a little research on oll dos criticizing d president, u'll discover that they are either south southerners, south easterners, christian extremists or hired operatives of Goodluck so if u look into ds set up well, u'll discover that none truly have d good interest of d country @ heart. They are nothing but set of haters. People dt God wll punish severely for being enemies of our beloved country. funny enough, none of 'em speaks good English, their comments are full of grammatical errors. FOOLS!
ReplyDeleteI NEVER KNEW ONE CAN BE THIS CLUELESS ABOUT GERMANY!!!
ReplyDeleteno be say mr president no knw wetin im dey talk t make una ask Ay,Gordons and Seyi Law dey go tell una wetin im mean.
ReplyDeleteOur car needs to be in Order and we have chosen PMB. Why can't we support Him to drag us from Our present pit to a land flowing with Milk and Honey. I. think if U can't provide a useful tool to fix Our car, stop been garrulous and watch the next
ReplyDeletestate of Our Car instead.Good day sir,
I dont know why we Nigerians find it easy to point out the worst in our leaders.... You will never find a US citizen saying things like this about Obama but that doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes.... This attitude has to stop if we really want this people to come good for us
ReplyDeleteIf you people like, extends your baseless accusations to God that HE made a mistake for making BUHARI president not you(Jack of all trades master of none). Buhari is far blessed in all aspects of life compared to all of you. GEJ products of clueless and inability.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite unfortunate that we have never been united as a sovereign nation, and may never be until we stop being biased! We were biased against Jonathan. We castigated him. We tore him to pieces with our hate words and incontinent actions and barbaric ideas. We made this country really ungovernable for him. We cried like the Israelites against the Biblical Prophet Samuel and insisted that we needed a king that would make us proud like other nations.
ReplyDeleteNow, God has given us a President Buhari just the way he gave the Israelites a king Saul. Initially, we were happy and felicitated with GMB for his victory; we evidently thanked God for the peaceful transition from GEJ to GMB (now, PMB). The handing over was colourful. We screamed, "This is the change we want!"
Barely one month into the new regime, we are crying wolf! Every public figure must come under the search light of the public. They must be criticised--- negatively or positively! we cannot rule this out. But, when it becomes "ano ad hominem" , that is, "argument targeted at the person" instead of the situation, then something is definitely not right.
Battering words with one another on social media will not take us anywhere. GEJ was criticised, but he "openeth not his mouth." For sure, PMB will be criticised. This is very normal. We should just hope and wait for the CHANGE we were promised--- not with trepidation but with faith.
We should be more concerned about the bombing in Akwa Ibom State and the movement of artillery to Ekwulobia in Anambra State as a result of the eventual transfer of about 47 members of the Boko Haram terrorist to the overpopulated and poorly equipped prison in that state. We should be more concerned about the agitation for Biafra going on in the East which may end up in another genocide or even a civil war if not properly handle! We should be more concerned about the extension of the Environmental Sanitation to Sunday in Kano and the implication of this to the Christian worshipers. We should be more concerned about the state of the Nigerian Nation.
For sure, Buhari will keep making mistakes. We are already trapped in the contraption and there is nothing we can do about it. We should only watch and pray that he doesn't fall below the standard of GEJ. He should make far more impact than GEJ because if he does not exceed the accomplishments of Jonathan, then he would have been the greatest disappointment to Nigerians and the international world!
Let us hope and wait for his first 100 days in office and see what he's been able to deliver. This is a global practice. Let us hold our tongues... and wait for PMB's first 100 days in office. Do not count the chickens before they are hatched. Let us wait. Buhari may have some pleasant surprises for this Country.
Inasmuch as I do not applaud the No. 1 Citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for making unacceptable blunders (anyway, no blunders are actually acceptable from any leader), I do advise that we who are being led should not cause a scene down here by posting hate comments against President Buhari or Dr Goodluck Jonathan. This will take us no where! Let us wait for the first 100 days in office.
Let us commend before we condemn...
TSL.
So what if PMB made mistake, your parent made mistake by given birth to u
ReplyDeleteWhen are we going to be patriotic Nigerians?Respect God! Respect elders! Respect Leaders! Respect the Nation! God will equally accord you of your due respect and honor! God will see you through GMB!
ReplyDeleteNigerians, please, it is high time we realized that unnecessarily staining the image of our President is as good as denting our individual images. I am not surprised that Nigerians should put up such publications on PMB who is just less than three months in office as the man willing to sacrifice himself or his life to rectify blunders committed by our recent pass leaders just to settle political scores. The perpetrators of this acrimonious act should stop forthwith and be reasonable and think analytically for the benefit of all and sundry. With the recent technological advancement, anything at all can be fabricated by the so-called experts in computer technology just to black mail PMB, but if I may ask, where would that take us to? Nigerians, be prudent and objective in your critics. No human being born of a woman and on the surface of this planet EARTH is perfect even if at all PMB makes such mistake, it doesn't call for bedeviling.
ReplyDeleteIs there any saint or perfect human being on the surface of this planet EARTH? I mean any man or woman who is exclusively perfect without blemish? If there is none, then, leave PMB alone; mistake or no mistake, he MUST accomplish that which the Lord has assigned him to achieve. Criticisms of this magnitudes are bound, but listen, Nigeria people, irrespective of religious, political or cultural affiliation should be constructive and objective enough in critics or issues of this nature.
ReplyDeleteNigerians!!! HABA!!! KAI!!!! yesterday it was SAI BABA, SAI BUHARI!!! 2day, d story is CRUCIFY HIM 4 doing what he knows how 2 do? when some were complaining about his certificates, u guys said it does not matter only 2 be shouting @ d very MINUTE mistake of his, hmm: let's be patient with him, pray 4 him, being mindful dat he represents US- NIGERIA. Let's do all 2 encourage him. GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!!
ReplyDeletewhat goes around comes around same mouths that made mockery of peace Goodluck now have also senn the change and now see that all make mistakes so accept it with Good faith
ReplyDeleteWe are praying for him and will not stop doing so. He will succeed. But let those close to him fill this gap. We all are learning. Such little error though minor speak volumes. We love him and are behind him. But let us reduce and avoid this kind of errors by doing the needful!
