Buhari's First Major Mistake As Nigeria's President [See Details]

After the popular chants of "Change," Muhammadu Buhari finally won Nigeria's presidential election and was subsequently sworn in.

Many (like me) have expected and believed him (of course I still do) to be the man to bring the much needed 'change' in Nigeria but no one ever saw this presidential blunder coming just few weeks after his inauguration.

Speaking on Channels TV, President Buhari referred to German Chancellor Angela Merkel as 'President Michelle' of  'West Germany'.. unacceptable!

An average Nigerian student knows that 'West Germany' no longer exists and  it's Angela Merkel not Michelle.

Well, trust Nigerians.. they took to Twitter to mercilessly slaughter our beloved president.

Below are some of the reactions..

  9. Is Merkels,or Merket or Michelle an Hausa name, Yoruba name, Igbo name or Efik name?. Foreigners and Non Yorubas call me Tale and Teye instead of Taye and so what?. Is it pronouncing a German name correctly that will solve Nigeria corruption, insecurity, hunger and unemployment problems?. PMB has not committed any mistake because of wrong pronunciation of a foreigners name. Stop this colonial mental syndrome and let Nigeria run with the change race in every nook and cranny of Nigeria.

  27. Excuse me Mr. Author, it is absolutely false to say that "...no one ever saw this presidential blunder coming..." Many of us saw it coming and we still see many others following. Those who never saw it coming are the ones who refused to be reasonable, were blinded by hate campaigns and dismissed every unfavourable incident concerning APC and MB as "propaganda". But those who were rational, factual and void of sentiments saw this coming when MB set certain precedents. Remember 1. Confidence for Congress in APC? 2. Nigeria for National in INEC? 3. Osinbade for Osinbajo at a campaign rally? 4. 6 months for 6 weeks of election postponement? (the infamous "Who Wants to be a President" video which many of you called propaganda even though they were facts?). And now besides the President Mitchell of West Germany gaffe, he also said "Chief Defense of Staff" when he actually meant "Chief of Defense Staff" at the Lake Chad Commission's meeting held recently. I expect many more to follow in quick succession. I don't miss Mama Peace at all, do you?

  28. May Ubeku or what ever you call youself, do you think this is a blunder? this man (PMB) is busy trying to fix the mess caused by the past governments, he doesn't even have time to address somebody. anyway even if does am very sure it was under pressure because all he has in mind now is Nigeria. I mean how to fix Nigeria in the right possition it oath to be

  39. I can actually see that we are not united in this country, it is easy to throw abusive words to jonathan and his wife but when it is buhari it is all well and good. Apart from the mistake he has been making what meaningfull action has he emback on since becoming the president of nigeria. All we hear is give him some time, i wonder how long some people will continue to make excuses for him.

  46. If you people like, extends your baseless accusations to God that HE made a mistake for making BUHARI president not you(Jack of all trades master of none). Buhari is far blessed in all aspects of life compared to all of you. GEJ products of clueless and inability.

    ReplyDelete
  47. It is quite unfortunate that we have never been united as a sovereign nation, and may never be until we stop being biased! We were biased against Jonathan. We castigated him. We tore him to pieces with our hate words and incontinent actions and barbaric ideas. We made this country really ungovernable for him. We cried like the Israelites against the Biblical Prophet Samuel and insisted that we needed a king that would make us proud like other nations.

Now, God has given us a President Buhari just the way he gave the Israelites a king Saul. Initially, we were happy and felicitated with GMB for his victory; we evidently thanked God for the peaceful transition from GEJ to GMB (now, PMB). The handing over was colourful. We screamed, "This is the change we want!"

Barely one month into the new regime, we are crying wolf! Every public figure must come under the search light of the public. They must be criticised--- negatively or positively! we cannot rule this out. But, when it becomes "ano ad hominem" , that is, "argument targeted at the person" instead of the situation, then something is definitely not right.

Battering words with one another on social media will not take us anywhere. GEJ was criticised, but he "openeth not his mouth." For sure, PMB will be criticised. This is very normal. We should just hope and wait for the CHANGE we were promised--- not with trepidation but with faith.

We should be more concerned about the bombing in Akwa Ibom State and the movement of artillery to Ekwulobia in Anambra State as a result of the eventual transfer of about 47 members of the Boko Haram terrorist to the overpopulated and poorly equipped prison in that state. We should be more concerned about the agitation for Biafra going on in the East which may end up in another genocide or even a civil war if not properly handle! We should be more concerned about the extension of the Environmental Sanitation to Sunday in Kano and the implication of this to the Christian worshipers. We should be more concerned about the state of the Nigerian Nation.

For sure, Buhari will keep making mistakes. We are already trapped in the contraption and there is nothing we can do about it. We should only watch and pray that he doesn't fall below the standard of GEJ. He should make far more impact than GEJ because if he does not exceed the accomplishments of Jonathan, then he would have been the greatest disappointment to Nigerians and the international world!

Let us hope and wait for his first 100 days in office and see what he's been able to deliver. This is a global practice. Let us hold our tongues... and wait for PMB's first 100 days in office. Do not count the chickens before they are hatched. Let us wait. Buhari may have some pleasant surprises for this Country.

Inasmuch as I do not applaud the No. 1 Citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for making unacceptable blunders (anyway, no blunders are actually acceptable from any leader), I do advise that we who are being led should not cause a scene down here by posting hate comments against President Buhari or Dr Goodluck Jonathan. This will take us no where! Let us wait for the first 100 days in office.

Let us commend before we condemn...

    TSL.

  50. Nigerians, please, it is high time we realized that unnecessarily staining the image of our President is as good as denting our individual images. I am not surprised that Nigerians should put up such publications on PMB who is just less than three months in office as the man willing to sacrifice himself or his life to rectify blunders committed by our recent pass leaders just to settle political scores. The perpetrators of this acrimonious act should stop forthwith and be reasonable and think analytically for the benefit of all and sundry. With the recent technological advancement, anything at all can be fabricated by the so-called experts in computer technology just to black mail PMB, but if I may ask, where would that take us to? Nigerians, be prudent and objective in your critics. No human being born of a woman and on the surface of this planet EARTH is perfect even if at all PMB makes such mistake, it doesn't call for bedeviling.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Is there any saint or perfect human being on the surface of this planet EARTH? I mean any man or woman who is exclusively perfect without blemish? If there is none, then, leave PMB alone; mistake or no mistake, he MUST accomplish that which the Lord has assigned him to achieve. Criticisms of this magnitudes are bound, but listen, Nigeria people, irrespective of religious, political or cultural affiliation should be constructive and objective enough in critics or issues of this nature.
