Jega Quits As INEC Boss, Hands Over To Ahmed Wali

Professor Attahiru Jega, on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 bowed out as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having spent five years in office.

Jega has handed over the reins of power to Ambassador Ahmed Wali, as the Acting Chairman of the commission.

Wali is a member of various committees of INEC and the Chairman of the Tenders Board.

He is a Fulani Muslim, who hails from Sanyima town in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Ambassador Ahmed Wali, was on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 appointed the acting chairman of the Independednt National Electoral Commission, INEC. 

The acting chairman was a Visiting Reader (Associate Professor) to the Department of Political Science, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and Chief Executive Officer, Development Strategies International (DSI).

The outgoing INEC boss left office alongside six national commissioners whose tenure equally expired same day.

His Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Kayode Idowu, in a statement, said Jega would be returning to the classroom soon after leaving office.

Before his appointment as the INEC chairman in 2010, Jega was the Vice Chancellor of the Bayero University, Kano State.
