Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka yesterday during a programme titled, ‘Channels Book Club’ on Channels Television said that Nigerians made a good choice of voting Good Luck Jonathan out, else the country would have been ruined if he was allowed to rule for another four years. Soyinka said he is happy that he encouraged people to vote for Buhari, because his Government can’t be anyway compared to that of Jonathan.

He said;
We were left with two credible contestants in terms of catchment area for the nation. We had reached, in my view, the bottom. I became convinced that if this country underwent four more years under President Jonathan, the country would run aground completely. I looked at the record and said this cannot go on, this has to stop.
Then I looked at this man who had contested elections three times before and said he would not contest anymore and then decided to throw his hat in the ring. I talked to people and I said do you know what you’re doing?
And after weighing all the options, I said let’s try a new one. And since in electoral terms, he was the one, I guardedly, with reservations, announced that no, not a continuation under Jonathan.
And so very reluctantly, I want this on record, because I made it quite clear, I weighed the two of them and I said this nation stands a better chance under Buhari. And what has been coming out now? Look at all that has been coming out? Look at the figures (loot) which virtually hammer one into the ground just the sheer enormity of the robbery of this nation that is getting exposed progressively. It shows that we did not make a bad choice.”

  1. Good choice indeed, you need to go back to school to know what is good this time. you said 'jonathan is worse than nebuchadnezzar, maybe your pocket and welfare is now better ; nigerians' have become rapidly poorer under your buhari, they now buy fuel for 150 naira if at all available, they're now struggling to retain their freedom of speech , with which you and others freely abused jonathan, more jobs are being lost than can ever be created under present realities, human right abuses, disobedience to court orders by government now the order of the day, killings and insecurity now in unprecedented numbers in less than one year. Prof, I you need to go back school to get a functional education .

  2. the Nobel Laurette is right, given the information and level of devastation painted by APC and the exaggerated facts presented. The only fact is that GOOdluck Jonathan was a no match for the Manipulative powers of the media controlled APC. Our highly respected, and still will be respected Professor just throw in the towell on Nigerian politicians if you can read between the lines. The worst choice to be taken of the two, was Buhari not because he did not achiev a thing but because he was weaker than the opposition. For president Buhari, who contested elections three time and again nursing ambition since overthrown is shameful did not havehis facts and figure right and apparently had no grand plan to change Nigeria except to fight corruption which he will do for the next four years. The professors point if i read it well, was at lease looting will reduce even if the change does not come. It is a shame that the struggle he started since his youth may out live him. Thank you Professor Soyinka for your patriotism in your youth days. For me he is one of the founders of the real Nigeria that will come surely.
