Nigerian Soldiers Caught While Trying To Supply Boko Haram With Ammunition

Two soldiers serving with the 143 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have been arrested on suspicion of helping Boko Haram after they were caught trying to transport explosives and ammunition to the terrorists.

Boko Haram, which has been waging a brutal war against Nigeria since 2009, has enjoyed a lot of success partially due to the fact that it has successfully infiltrated the Nigerian Army.

During the course of its campaign, Boko Haram has had inside information on troop movement and has carried out several daring raids on army facilities.   Former president Dr Goodluck Jonathan even confessed that his government has been infiltrated by Boko Haram members.

In this latest development, the two soldiers, who were explosive ordinance device personnel, were arrested at Yola Motor Park as they attempted to transport Nigerian Army explosives and ammunitions.

Nigerian Army spokesman Colonel Sani Usman, said:
Unfortunately, despite these successes, a crop of black sheep amongst us are bent on tarnishing the image of the Nigerian Army. Last Sunday 7th February 2016, two of our explosive ordinance device personnel attached to 143 Battalion, 13NA/ 70/10183 Sapper Eric Nwokorie and 13NA/70/10263 Sapper Macauley Fortune were arrested at Yola Park.
They had the following unauthorised military items: one Smoke grenade, 2,136 live rounds of 7.62 (special) ammunition, 50 live rounds of 7.6mm ammunition, five magazines of AK 47 rifles and two Browning Machine Gun live rounds of ammunitions. They also has one axe, one cutlass,  one jack knife, nine jungle hats, 11 pairs of camouflage, four military pullovers, one black beret, one green beret, one pair of number seven dress, two general duty belts, 12 army T-shirts, two rain coats, two water bottles, one pairs of rain boot and five pairs of desert boots.
He added that this unfortunate incident notwithstanding, troop's morale remains high as they continue to dominate the general area with aggressive raids, ambushes and patrols to clear the remnants of the terrorists hibernating in the area. Of late, the Nigerian Army has enjoyed some success in recapturing territory from Boko Haram.
